Longevity · Real food · The first hour

Everything good starts at first light.

Real food, real research, and the discipline to be up before the world is. This is what I've found — what actually works, and what's just being sold to us.

The Ritual

The hour nobody is awake for.

There's nothing mystical about it. Early light, moving water, a body that's used properly and a mind that gets ten quiet minutes. Do it long enough and it stops being discipline — it becomes the part of the day you'd fight someone for.

5:40

First light

Outside before the sun clears the horizon. Ten minutes of early light on skin and in the eyes — the cheapest, most under-rated thing available to any of us, and it sets the whole day's rhythm. The dog is already at the door.

6:10

The water

Cold ocean, every morning it's offered. It resets something that coffee never touches — energy that arrives without a crash on the other side of it.

6:45

Move something heavy

Strength first, always. Muscle is the one asset that compounds quietly for decades and costs the most to get back once it's gone. This is the grit half of the name.

7:15

Stillness

Gratitude, prayer, breath — whatever you call it. Ten minutes facing the water with nothing asked of you. The day gets everything else; this part stays mine.

7:20

Heat, then stretch

Sauna while the body is still warm from the work, then twenty minutes on the floor getting length back. The stretching is the part everybody skips and the part that decides whether you're still moving well at eighty.

7:50

Then eat

Protein first, then colour, fat and salt. Food that was recently alive. Nothing that needs a label to explain what it is.

The Practice

Six things, done most days.

None of it is exotic and none of it costs much. That's rather the point — the things that hold up over decades tend to be the boring ones.

Low sun breaking over a calm ocean horizon at dawn
Light

Sun on skin, early

Twenty minutes of early light on as much skin as the morning allows, before the sun gets harsh. She doesn't burn and she isn't chasing a tan — it's about the light itself, taken at the gentlest hour of the day.

Movement

Walking, unhurried

Not a workout. The dog off his lead, the sand, an hour with nowhere to be. Easy walking is the most under-rated thing in the whole longevity conversation, and it's free.

Mobility

Stretch like it matters

Twenty minutes on the floor, most days. Strength keeps you capable; mobility keeps you comfortable. Losing either one is what actually makes people feel old.

This is one person's routine — not a prescription for yours.

Everything on this page describes what I personally do. It isn't medical advice and it isn't a recommendation. Sun exposure, heat, fasting and training all carry real individual risk, and what suits one body doesn't suit another. Make your own calls with your own doctor — that goes double if you're managing a condition or taking medication.

Recipes

Food that earns its place on the plate.

High protein, real ingredients, and fast enough to survive a real morning. Every one of these gets made in my own kitchen before it goes up here.

Dietary guide

Symbols are my own guidance for how I eat — they are not medical advice, and histamine tolerance varies person to person. Check ingredients against your own needs.

    Longevity & Reviews

    Without buying the bullshit.

There is an enormous amount of money in telling people they're running out of time. I read the actual research, buy the thing with my own money, and tell you what I found — including when the answer is "this does nothing."

This is education, not medical advice.

Everything here is my own reading and my own experience — nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. I'm not a doctor and I'm not yours. Before you change anything about your health, supplements or medication, talk to your own physician, especially if you're managing a condition.

    How I review things

So you can decide how much to trust any of it.

    01

    I pay for it

Bought with my own money. If something is ever gifted or affiliate-linked, it's said plainly on the page.

    02

    Long enough to matter

Minimum eight weeks before I'll write about it. Most things feel great for two weeks.

    03

    Sources shown

Studies linked, sample sizes noted. If the evidence is thin, that gets said out loud.

    04

    "No" is a result

The write-ups that say don't bother are the most useful ones here. They stay up.

    Hormone Education

The conversation nobody started early enough.

Most of us got almost no useful information about what our hormones do over a lifetime — and then got handed a prescription pad or a shrug. I've spent a long time reading, asking better questions, and looking hard at the natural-first options. Here's what I found.

    i

Read this before anything else on this page.

This is educational content about my own research and experience — not medical advice. Hormones are genuinely complicated and genuinely individual. Nothing here diagnoses, treats, or prevents anything, and none of it is a reason to start, stop or change a medication. Please work with your own doctor — ideally one who'll actually sit with your bloodwork and your questions.

    The Whole Point

Doors open, salt in the air, nowhere to be.

Looking back over one shoulder on the beach at sunrise
The two of us at golden hour
    About

I'm not selling you a shortcut.

This started because I got tired of the two options on offer: pretend nothing is changing, or hand over a credit card to somebody promising to reverse it. Neither one is honest, and neither one works.

So I started doing the reading myself. Actual studies, not headlines about studies. Buying the thing and testing it properly instead of taking the ad's word for it. Getting up before the sun because the light and the salt water and the heavy things do more for me than anything I've ever bought in a bottle.

The goal was never to look younger. It was to still be strong, sharp and useful in thirty years — and to enjoy the thirty years.

Most of it happens by the ocean, most of it happens early, and none of it happens alone. If you're somewhere near the same stretch of road, this is all of it — written down, tested, and handed over for free.

Come and get the early hours with me.

One email a week — a recipe, whatever I've been reading, and anything I've tested that's worth your time. No pressure, no supplements to buy, unsubscribe whenever.

You're in. See you at first light. 🌅

No spam, ever. Your email isn't shared or sold.
